Academic Keynote Panel- IT Organization of the Future: Driving Business Change Ms. Marilyn Smith Head of Information Services and Technology Massachusetts Institute of Technology Since late 2009, Marilyn T. Smith has been Head of Information Services and Technology at MIT. She leads MIT’s central IT organization, which consists of 300 staff and is responsible for systems, infrastructure and technical support across the university. From 2006 to 2009 Marilyn was President of the Life Companies at The Hanover Insurance Group in Worcester, MA. She led the sale and transition of The Hanover’s 160-year-old life insurance businesses to Goldman Sachs. Marilyn started her tenure at The Hanover Insurance Group in 2000 directing all new information technology development for the corporation. After graduating from Wellesley College with a major in Astronomy, Marilyn spent 25 years at John Hancock in information systems management. She subsequently spent 4 years at Liberty Mutual as Vice President and CIO of Personal Market Information Systems. Marilyn received her MBA with Highest Distinction from Babson College in 1992. Marilyn is Chair of the Wellesley College Alumnae Achievement Awards Committee and serves on several other Wellesley College committees.
